At Manhattan Dental Health we do not use mercury-containing materials. Today,
there’s no need unless money is an issue. “Silver fillings” are still used some
places because they are less expensive and easier to do than tooth colored ones.
Tooth Colored restorations are harder to do. They take longer and are more
technique-sensitive. There’s a saying amongst Dental School educators that they
can teach a “C” student to do an acceptable “silver filling” but it takes an “A”
student to do an acceptable tooth colored one. How many “A” Dentists are there?
Having said that, we do one type of non-tooth-colored restoration…Gold! Yes,
Gold. It is still the standard by which restoration longevity is measured. NO,
we don’t use gold where it shows. We use it where cosmetics allow (that’s your
decision) and where function is paramount.
What we mostly use is porcelain and porcelain-like composite materials. The
decision is based on what we feel will last longest and be best for the tooth
and your mouth. The decision is made on a tooth-by-tooth,
individual-by-individual basis. That’s the way we do everything at Manhattan
Dental Health, custom everything.

People are keeping their teeth and they’re living longer than ever. We try to
engineer our restorations to last as long as possible. While nothing lasts
forever, the better the planning and the execution, the longer it will last.
Good dentistry is expensive…bad dentistry is even more so!
Our primary concern is that you are able to chew, speak and smile with
comfort and confidence. To learn more about our “A” level restorations call
